In a bid to provide ongoing support to Morecambe’s local communities, housing-development specialists, Pathway Homes Group (PHG), made a significant donation of essential food items to Morecambe Bay Foodbank earlier today.

The developer, who provides housing solutions for those who need it most (veterans adjusting to civilian life, single parents and families facing financial hardships etc.), has continued their ongoing relationship with Morecambe Bay Food Bank by delivering much-needed donations for families facing food insecurity. Earlier today, members of PHG’s workforce delivered these urgently needed food supplies to the Morecambe based Charity.

Established in 2012, Morecambe Bay Foodbank was founded by local churches and community groups with one unified aim: to stop hunger in Morecambe. With a vision to establish a future without the need for foodbanks, Morecambe Bay Foodbank offers a lifeline to those in need within their local communities, with the charity delivering parcels to ensure everybody has direct access to essential foods.

The Morecambe based charity are members of The Trussell Trust’s national network, which works to combat poverty and hunger across the U.K. According to The Trussell Trust, when the Covid-19 pandemic first struck and spread throughout the country, they had already been experiencing year-on-year rises in the number of individuals and families unable to afford food and forced to use foodbanks within their network.

In the twelve months since the U.K.’s first national lockdown, the charity reported a sustained surge in the demand for foodbanks as families struggled with the uncertainty of the pandemic and the increased financial issues born from such. Their research has shown that the devastating effects of Covid-19 has led to an abundance of people using foodbanks for the first time and will likely worsen when furlough is ended, and further redundancies are made. In Morecambe in particular, the local communities have shown enormous resilience and determination to provide vital support to those in need through donations and volunteering.

Rhodri Andrews, Communications Manager at PHG, stated: “Pathway Homes Group are passionate about supporting local communities and giving something back. Towards the end of 2020, we made our first donation to Morecambe Bay Foodbank and are proud to provide further support today. As it is a local charity that does so much for Morecambe, we are committed to going above and beyond to support them wherever possible”.

David Smith, Operations Director at Morecambe Bay Foodbank, stated: “The ongoing support of Pathway Homes has made a real difference for our region. We want to make sure that nobody in our local communities has to go hungry due to lack of food and Pathway’s donation helps us to work towards this goal”. He continued: “we all have a responsibility to stand alongside our neighbours and wider community and we are so grateful to Pathway Homes for their donation”.

Today’s donation highlights PHG’s commitment to the ongoing and successful partnership they have established with Morecambe Bay Foodbank, with further support plans already being arranged with the developer agreeing to assist the charity as they move to new premises.
